Strike Brings Mogadishu Airport to a Standstill

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Mogadishu’s Adan Adde airport has been brought to a complete standstill on Tuesday after local flight operators went on strike.

The unexpected strike made by local flight operators has come after the federal government banned one of the local carriers from flying to the town of Dolow in Gedo region.

Somali federal government earlier rejected calls by the local flight operators to discontinue the ban but the government ignored their demands, leading to unexpected strike.

Hundreds of passengers are currently stranded at Adan Adde airport after several local flights have been cancelled early on Tuesday morning.

Somali Aviation officials have told Somaliguardian that talks are set to begin between the government and local flight operators to bring an end to the strike.
