KHARTOUM (Somaliguardian) – Sudan has summoned its ambassador to Ethiopia and permanent representative to the African Union Ahmed Al-Sheikh on Wednesday, as simmering border tensions are feared to embroil the two countries into an all-out war.
The ambassador was recalled for consultation with Sudanese authorities over GERD dam and border disputes with Ethiopia, Al-Sayha newspaper reported, quoting sources within the government.
The sources also disclosed that the visit of Saudi Minister of State for African Affairs in Sudan aims to calm tensions and resolve dispute between Khartoum and Addis Ababa through peaceful means.
It comes after the Arab League called for restraint and de-escalation as the two countries continue pouring reinforcements on the disputed Fashaqa border area.
Ethiopia has not immediately commented on the move, which comes weeks after Ethiopian ambassador to Sudan returned to Addis Ababa.
