Sudan Says Will Defend Its Rights If GERD Negotiations Fail

Sudan

KHARTOUM (Somaliguardian) – Sudan’s Minister of Irrigation said on Saturday that if Ethiopian Renaissance Dam negations fail to produce intended results, his government will defend “our rights by all legitimate means”.

The Sudanese Minister of Irrigation Yasser Abas blamed lack of will for the failure to reach a deal between Sudan, Ethiopia and Egypt over the GERD dispute.

“A lack of political will is behind the failure to reach an agreement on the Rennaisance Dam,” Abas said.

The remarks have come after Egyptian president Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi and Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok met in Cairo on Thursday and agreed to continue talks with Ethiopia over the Ethiopian Grand Renaissance Dam.

“Ethiopia is trying to include a water-sharing point in the Rennaisance Dam negations,” Sudan’s Minister of Irrigation Yasser Abas added.
