MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The two houses of Somalia’s parliament have endorsed the recent electoral agreement signed by president Farmajo and the leaders of five regional states.
During a joint, extraordinary session of the Lower and Upper Houses of the Somali Parliament on Saturday, 252 MPs have voted to approve the deal, 1 rejected and another abstained from voting.
The MPs have also voted to keep their posts until a new parliament is sworn in, saying that the move has been made in accordance with the national constitution.
The approval of the deal by parliament comes a few days after new Prime Minister has been sworn in, who is assigned to lead the implementation of an electoral deal reached by federal and regional leaders.
