French President Calls for Talks to End Ethiopia’s Conflict

NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – France’s president Emmanuel Macron called for talks between the Ethiopian government and Tigray forces to end months-long hostilities in the northern Ethiopian region, the Elysee Palace said in a statement on Saturday.

It came after telephone conversations Macron held earlier in the day with the Ethiopian prime minister Abiy Ahmed and Sudanese counterpart Abdalla Hamdok.

The statement follows remarks by the Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta, who added his voice to growing calls for ceasefire and “dialogue” to bring an end to the war raging in the north of Africa’s second most populous nation.

French president said all restrictions should be lifted and allow an unfettered humanitarian access to Tigray region, where tens of thousands of children could suffer life-threatening malnutrition, according to the United Nations.
