Political wrangling between Farmajo and Khayre leading to a dead-end rift

(Somaliguardian-Mogadishu)- A political wrangling has been building up at Villa Somalia, as president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and his Prime Minister disputed on the establishment of a new political party ahead of 2021 elections.

Sources close to Villa Somalia are now confirming that the spate of the political wrangling is now turning the tide in favor of President Farmajo who wants his PM not to contest in the run-up to 2021 presidential elections.

The two disputed on establishing a political party formed by the government and the epicenter of conflict between the president and his PM lies at who would lead the party.

Earlier, the Somali president relinquished his US citizen with the aim of participating the 2021 presidential elections.

Law experts believe that the citizenship renunciation move of president Farmajo would leave aside all contestants with foreign passports after a constitutional amendment which the president intends to take into effect before the polls in 2021.

However, the Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khayre who as well has his own political motives and made friends among the international community wants to roll the dice, and try his luck.

If the political wrangling at Villa Somalia continues with such a magnitude it could lead to a dead-end rift and would expedite the resignation of the Somali Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Khayre, leaving an unbridgeable political vacuum.
