Somali Governor Killed in Al-Shabaab Suicide Bomb Attack in Galkayo

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) –A regional governor in Somalia’s Mudug region has been killed in a suicide bomb blast claimed by the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab group, according to security officials.

Ahmed Mouse Nur (Daba-karih), governor of Mudug region, was pronounced dead after being rushed to hospital in the town of Galkayo, the capital of Somalia’s Mudug region where the blast occurred Sunday.

A source at Mudug’s regional headquarters, who did not wish to be identified, said militants rammed a car laden with explosives into another one, in which the governor was travelling in.

Apart from the governor, 3 of his bodyguards were killed in the attack with several others wounded including security forces.

Earlier, the governor of Nugal region Abdisalan Gujir was killed in a similar suicide bomb attack in Garowe town, the capital of Puntland regional state in Somalia.

More recently, Al-Shabaab armed group in Somalia has increased attacks targeting government officials, army members and foreign troops in the country and neighboring Kenya.
