Somalia: Top Military Officer Tests Positive for Coronavirus

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) –Somalia has reported its second case of coronavirus as the country puts in place measures to contain the spread of the virus.

Minister of Health Fowsiya Abikar Nour briefing local media outlets said another citizen from the overseas countries tested positive for coronavirus and is currently quarantined in a destined place receiving medical treatment.

The minister also stressed that the citizen has not yet shown any symptoms of the virus, but tested positive following a medical check.

Reports say that the individual whose coronavirus case has been reported by the Ministry of Health is a top Somali military officer who recently flew from Italy, a country heavily stricken by COVID19 and arrived at Mogadishu airport.

Somali government has relations on a variety of forefronts with Turkey, Italy and China –countries that remain to be most affected by coronavirus in recent months.

Somali citizens fear that government officials could become a source for possible spread of COVID19 among Somalis throughout the country.
