Somaliland Herders Union Calls on Australia to Stop Culling Camels

HARGEISA (Somaliguardian) –Somaliland’s Herders called on the Australian government to stop killing camels amid water shortages instilling the animal’s slaughter.

Australia says the culling is necessary to prevent the animals from drinking too much water in the drought hit country.

In a statement issued by the chairman of Somaliland’s herders union, Mustafa Ali Du’ale, they urged the Australian government to pay heed of their call and urgently stop the culling of camels.

They union also suggested that Somalis should exert efforts in returning the camel back to their ancestral home, Somalia –where people like the most herding camels which is the most precious asset its owner could talk with excessive pride and self-satisfaction.
