KISMAYO (Somaliguardian) –US ambassador of Somalia Donald Yamamoto and AFRICOM commander General Stephen Townsend met with Jubaland President Ahmed Madobe in Kismayo on Wednessday amid clashes reported from the port city, officials confirmed.

The meeting took place at the Presidential palace of Jubaland regional state in which the US officials tabled their concerns over the deteriorating regional security to Ahmed Madobe whose reign has been marred by political dispute with the Somali Federal Government.

Sources close to the president of Jubaland told Somaliguardian that officials discussed issues regarding co-working on regional stability, settling the dispute with the Federal Government in a peaceful approach and fighting Al-Shabaab –which strongly operates in the area.

Meanwhile, fierce clashes have been reported from Kismayo as the US officials visited the town to hold talks with the regional leader; however, residents confirmed that supporters of Abdinasir Serar an opposition leader against Madobe’s rule have tried to pass along a major avenue closed to traffic by security forces.

No casualties have so far been reported but witnesses said the situation has been tense during the hours after clashes took place.
