MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – US-trained Somali special forces commander Mohamed Adan Suleiman was killed in a fighting that again erupted in the town of Lasanod where Somaliland troops are battling local forces seeking a reunification with Somalia, BBC Somali has reported.

Suleiman traveled along with Somalia’s former police chief Abdi Hassan Hijar last month and shared images of him with a sniper rifle taking part in confrontations with Somaliland troops.

He was formerly a battalion commander with US-trained Danab special forces before he was appointed as the commander of mobile police unit that carries out operations to beef up security of the capital Mogadishu.

Somaliland has repeatedly alleged that Somali army and troops of neighboring Puntland state are taking part in Lasanod fighting, but army commander Odowa Yusuf Rageh has told BBC Somali that they will dismiss soldiers found to have participated in the battles raging in Lasanod.
